As much as J.D. had a breakout season in 2019, how he gets at-bats with that crowded infield and Cespedez declaring himself ready for Opening Day is beyond me.

Damn right, the guy’s a snitch. If he was really concerned about what was going on, he would’ve spoken up when it was going on, not wait until 3 years later.
Cespedes arrived in camp well before Saturday’s official reporting date for position players, but team media relations officials indicated he would not speak to reporters for the first time since spring training 2019 until this week. But Cespedes issued only a brief message Monday when approached by a group of reporters who asked if he had a few minutes to talk.
“Not today, not tomorrow, not at all year this year,” Cespedes said.
Why not?
“Because I don’t want to,” Cespedes said.
Cespedes, who is recovering from multiple right ankle fractures sustained after encountering a wild boar on his ranch last May, was asked if he could say how he was feeling. He declined.
Hey, if Cespedes is healthy and has a big year with the bat I could care less he stays mute for the whole year.

This must be one of those combo player/longtime Mets broadcaster deals because Darling’s Mets career alone doesn’t quite warrant him getting in their HOF.
I would’ve loved having Marte in our lineup, but all the talking of us possibly giving up too much (namely, Brandon Nimmo) for him led me to believe that it was never going to happen.
I’m not excited.
And this is coming from someone who can’t stand the Yankees (but then, any true Mets fan hates the Yankees as well as every other team in the NL East). But really, what could be the reason one sole writer wouldn’t vote Jeter into the Hall of Fame other than for the attention? Even if you’re one of these new-age, WAR-obsessed ass-clowns who thought Jeter was an overrated shortstop who only got the immense attention he got because he played for the Yankees or just an extreme Yankee-hater who couldn’t stand the idea of Jeter going in unanimously one year after Mariano Rivera was the first to do it, not voting Jeter in the HOF is just sacrilegious. What, 5 World Series titles, 3.465 career hits, 14 All-Star games and 5 Golden Gloves wasn’t enough for you? Then clearly your standards are so high that you’d have a hard time voting Sandy Koufax in. And with the rules protecting your identity, not are you getting the attention you so desperately wanted, but you get to hide too…coward.
To me, it has to be either Dusty or Buck Showalter. For all I’m hearing about Luis Rojas, there’s better and more experience options available, so why not take them?
Huge surprise considering that he got a pass from many in the press due to his being a player at the time of the Astros sign-stealing scandal and not a coach or manager. But then, with Beltran making this choice on his own, one can’t help but wonder how much of a role did he really play in the whole brouhaha to begin with? Now the Mets should do the right thing and hire Dusty Baker or Buck Showalter.
While this news will forever be a stain on Beltran’s playing career, I’m not sure that he should be fired as Mets manager because of it what with the punishments already dished out being so severe and the Astros 2017 championship forever being tainted.
The Mets are shopping infielder Jed Lowrie and first baseman Dominic Smith in a package deal, reports Ken Davidoff of the New York Post. Lowrie, who was limited to seven at-bats by injury in 2019, has $12 million remaining on his contract. Smith is capital B-Blocked by Pete Alonso at first base. New York is hoping to convince a team to take on Lowrie’s salary to get Smith’s promising bat.
Last month we looked at 10 teams that could capitalize on a Lowrie/Smith package deal, several of which have since made moves to upgrade their infield. The Rangers have uncertainty at the two corner infield positions and stand out as a candidate to plug Lowrie in at third base in 2020 and install Smith as their first baseman of the future. It’s unclear whether the two sides have talked.
Lowrie never made any sense picking up in the 1st place and Smith has enough talent where he could start at 1st base for most teams. You’re telling me that the Mets can’t get say a starting center-fielder for these two?
